Australian water reform in the international eye
One of the world's leading water scientists has labelled Australian water reform as critical to international efforts to make irrigation sustainable.
Sandra Postel from the Global Water Policy Project says the challenges in the Murray Darling Basin are indicative of problems other countries face in the future.
She says successful reform in Australia will influence change internationally.
"There's probably no other place that I can name right now than the Murray Darling Basin in particular and Australia in general that is better placed to lead on this issue," she says.
"Because I think I think the science and the technology and the policies that have already been put in place and are now being advanced even more are in the forefront I think of what needs to happen in many other areas."
